Kiln and Exit Gas Fan Drive Modernization
Yamama Saudi Cement Company
Project Overview
Hi-Tec Industrial Automation supported Yamama Saudi Cement Company with the modernization of drive and motor systems serving the kiln main drive and exit gas fan. The project addressed obsolete drive equipment and the difficulty of obtaining spare parts and service support.
Challenge / Project Requirement
The existing drive technology had become obsolete, creating concerns around serviceability and spare-parts availability for critical cement-plant equipment.
Solution and Technical Scope
The scope covered design, supply and commissioning of drives, motors and transformers. The documented configuration included twin 4,500 kW kiln drives and 350 kW motors, plus a 630 kW exit gas fan drive, a 590 kW motor and 850 kVA transformers. The project reference lists Vacon variable-frequency drives (VFDs), ABB motors and transformers.
Project Outcome
The modernization replaced obsolete drive technology with a new drive-and-motor arrangement for two important applications: the kiln main drive and exit gas fan. The upgrade was intended to improve long-term maintainability by reducing dependence on equipment for which spares and service were no longer readily available.
